Sotogrande is rapidly becoming one of the most important
leisure resorts on the Costa del Sol. As well as the prestigious Sotogrande Marina and
Santa Maria Polo Club, the resort is also home to the world famous Valderrama golf course
which hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup. The town also boasts excellent tennis and riding
facilities, whilst for the less energetic there is an abundance of secluded beaches,
trendy restaurants and stylish shops.
Sotogrande is considered to be a prime real estate location and consequently it has some
of the most exclusive developments on the Costa del Sol.
Marina
The Puerto Sotogrande was custom built in 1987 to cater for the worlds
most luxurious sailors. With 548 berths ( there are plans to increase this to 1052 )
each with electricity, fresh water, telephone and television, the Marina is arguably
the best on the Costa. The Sotogrande Sailing School operates out of the marina and
provides expert sailing and windsurfing tuition for people of all levels of experience.
Each year Sotogrande hosts a number of major regattas. These attract boats from along
the Spanish coast and draw large crowds to the town.
Golf
Sotogrande is the ideal base for golfing holidays with three first class
courses on the doorstep - Valderrama, Sotogrande Golf Course and Almenara Golf.
Polo
The Santa Maria Club is the home of Spanish polo. Many of the worlds
top players come here to enjoy the outstanding venue and facilities, and to compete
in the International tournament that is held here every August. |
