The Costa Brava is on the Northern coast of Catalonia, extending some 100 miles
( 160km ) along the coast from north of Barcelona through to the province of Girona. T he name Costa Brava refers to the coast of the Province of Girona and includes the regions of Alt Emporda, Baix Emporda and Selva of Catalonia
( Catalunya ).
There are many places well worth a visit including Dalí Museum at Figueres and
the Cinema Museum at Girona together with a stroll round the Old Town, the
Jewish Quarter and the cathedral in Girona.
Visitors love the breathtakingly beautiful coastline of the Costa Brava, with many exploring the deserted coves and abundance of wide sandy beaches by boat. A short drive to the east takes you to the wooded hills of the pre-Pyrenees, with trout-filled streams feeding environmentally protected lakes - like the one in Banyoles - offering a welcome alternative to the coastal beaches.
Seafood reigns supreme, from sardines to delicious lobster, but specialities also include local wild game, like boar, duck and rabbit, which can all be washed down with a variety of wines produced from the vineyards surrounding the area.
Costa Brava was the first of the Spanish " Costas " to attract foreign buyers, and has never looked back since. To British and other European investors it is a very attractive proposition especially with the city of Barcelona being within easy driving distance.
Buying cost / information
Apart from the obvious attraction of the Mediterranean Sea there are many other reasons for buying Costa Brava properties. The scenery inland is spectacular and of course the Pyrenees are not far away. Properties on the Costa Brava range
from the purpose built modern apartment blocks to older traditional substantial houses. There are still many 'bargains' to be had for those buyers willing to sacrifice a sea view for other often more spectacular views. The quality and the pace of life in rural areas of the Costa Brava are very different from that in the tourist areas.
Weather
The Costa Brava enjoys wonderful weather for most of the year with an annual mean temperature of about 16ºC, moderate rainfall and some 2,500 hours of sunshine a year. This allows for excellent sporting activities of all descriptions.
Transport
The road network throughout Catalonia is excellent, and along with the land's topographical diversity, one should keep in mind that cultural traditions, architecture, as well as gastronomy, differ from region to region.
