The city of Torrevieja is situated 50 km south west of Alicante in the Coast Blanca. The resort has many magnificent white beaches, and natural beauty spots, as well as its own harbour and small fishing fleet. Near to the marina you will find superb fish restaurants specialising in catch of the day. There is also a delightful indoor market which offers a tremendous selection of fish, fruit, meat and vegetables throughout the year.
The entire area around of Torrevieja and Orihuela are famous for their salt production, with huge salt mountains producing more than half a million tons each year.
These " Salterns of Torrevieja " are the second biggest in the world and certainly the largest in Europe. The lagoons have been designated as national parks and
are an impressive sight, attracting more than 250 bird species including flamingoes.
Torrevieja has a large expatriate community, evident in the many multi cultural bars, restaurants and entertainment facilities in and around the town.
Torrevieja enjoys a Mediterranean climate with around 320 days of sunshine per year and an average daily temperature of 17°C. Temperatures typically reaching 30°C in July and August.
