| There is an abundance of sport on the island of Gran Canaria, whether you
prefer tennis, water sports, fishing, rock climbing or just a casual walk. Along the southern coast there are long, fine sandy beaches, sport facilities.
There are three water parks on Gran Canaria: Aqua Park in Puerto Rico and Ocean Park and a smaller one Aqua Sur in Maspalomas. All offer lots of attractions to keep both children and adults amused all day. There are dozens of slides and swimming pools. Aqua Sur also has a wave machine and a " lazy river " where visitors can float around the complex on an inflatable tyre.
One of the most popular days out in Gran Canaria is to Sioux city which was built originally for an American western film in 1972, but later developed into a Wild West theme park complete with cowboys, Indians, Mexicans and of course a sheriff. There are shows throughout the day featuring bank robberies, saloon fights, cattle stampedes, rodeos and gunfights at the OK Coral. Between shows visitors can enjoy a barbeque or visit the Three Star Saloon.
The Crocodile Park is located near the town of Aguímes, a few miles southwest
of the airport. It is home to more than 300 crocodiles and alligators from all over the world. Visitors can not only see the crocodiles feeding at various times of the day but also visit the other half of the park which is a zoo. Here there are
monkeys and chimpanzees, tigers, jaguars, camels and much more. In the middle of the park is a restaurant in the where visitors can watch a parrot show.
There is an exceptional range of golf courses ( six in total ) to choose from on
the island and they have been professionally designed. You are able to enjoy the calm and peacefulness needed to improve your game, or simply to play and enjoy your favourite sport. Gran Canaria has many other tourist attractions including Museums, Monuments and Historical Architectural buildings, Churches, Botanical Gardens and much more ! Like many of the other islands Gran Canaria also
offers Whale and Dolphin excursions !
You cannot visit Gran Canaria without seeing the many wonderful views and scenery, both high up in the mountains, in the forests, and along the coastal areas. Whatever you prefer there will be something there for everyone.
From the very impressive Maspalomas beach complete with over 250 hectares
of sand dunes extending right next to the sea, to the totally unspoilt beach of Güigüi. There are also beaches on protected land and these are extremely beautiful, with small coves and nudist beaches too which are mainly found in the South !
