A lovely 19th century fishing town that still retains a lot of its original charm. Over the last few years, Garrucha has become a popular holiday destination for all ages. It is well known for its superb, sandy beaches that stretch for several kilometres. The beach closest to the town centre is the only Blue Flag town beach in Europe.
The life of the town revolves around its three ports, where flotillas of small fishing boats set out at dawn each day and return later with their catch. The daily fish auction held at a quayside every afternoon by the fishermen is also worth a visit.
There is a wonderful palm tree-lined promenade that stretches the whole length of the town. There is a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants all serving the fresh catch of the day.
