France - Limousin |
| |
| |
| |
The region of Limousin is made up of three departments - La
Creuse to the east, Haute Vienne to the west, and Correze to the south. Limoges is the capital
of the region.
Much less affected by tourism than many other parts of France, with a local economy based on
agriculture, Limousin truely is rural France, with its woodland, green hills and pasture land.
The famous Limousin cattle are bred here and moorlands have made the Limousin a region of
horse-breeders. Amongst the unspoilt countryside lie hundreds of ancient village churches as well
as larger churches and fortresses, showing fine examples of the regions vibrant history.
Canoeing, kayaking, fishing and sailing are popular here with many lakes and
rivers spread across the region. Streams and brooks abundant with trout attract many fishermen too. |
