France is one of the founding members of the European Union, and has the largest land area of all members. France is also a founding member of the United Nations. It is one of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council wielding veto power, and it is also one of only seven acknowledged nuclear powers in existence.
France is a large and diverse country and it would be hard to exhaust in a lifetime
of visits. Each region of France is very different. Even the French sometimes call people from other towns foreigners and their own town ´mon pays´(my country). From the coast of Brittancy to the limestone hills of Provence. From the wooded valleys of the Dordogne to the glaciated peaks of the Alps and the canyons of the Pyrenees and the half-moon bays of Corsica. The strong sense of regional identity, often expressed in the form of active separatist movements, as in Brittany and Corsica, has persisted over centuries.
Due to the relatively late industrial development France´s rural areas have
changed very slowly, with hundreds of villages still retaining their old houses and streets. There are large ares of woodland and undeveloped land without a house
in sight. With this in mind, France is the ideal country to enjoy at a leisurely pace.
Whichever part of France you visit there will be an endless choice of activities.
