Croatia - Getting There |

By Air
Croatia has eight major airports : Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, Pula, Rijeka ( on the island of Krk ), Zadar, Brac and Osijek. If you're flying into Croatia from elsewhere in Europe, you'll almost certainly be flying to one of the first five.
From the UK/Ireland/Europe
Two airlines have direct, scheduled flights from the UK to Croatia, Croatia Airlines
( http://www.croatiaairlines.hr/index.php ) and British Airways,
( http://www.britishairways.com )
Aer Lingus ( http://www.aerlingus.com ) have flights from Dublin to Dubrovnik.
Most other major European airlines also have flights into Croatia, including Lufthansa, ( http://portal.lufthansa.com )
Alitalia, ( http://www.alitalia.it ), Austrian Airlines, ( http://www.aua.com/at/eng/ ),
Air France, ( http://www.airfrance.com/uk ),
CSA ( http://www.czechairlines.co.uk/en/england/uk_home.htm ) and
LOT ( http://www.lot.com/english_bg.htm ).
There are also numerous internal flights within Croatia ( operated by Croatia Airlines ), so if you're having trouble finding direct flights to a particular city, you could always fly via Zagreb.
None of the low-cost airlines fly direct from the UK to Croatia, however you could fry to an airport
in a country near Croatia (e.g. in Italy or Austria) or get an indirect flight. This is especially
suitable when you can get excellent deals on flight tickets - for example, Ryanair
( http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/ )
sometimes do one-way flights for only 1p ! ( sign up to receive Ryanair's newsletter in order to be
notified when they're running special flight deals. ) If you book early enough, you can get great
bargains with full-fare airlines! Budget airlines may give you great flight prices, but the extra
travel costs ( buses, trains, ferries etc. ) in reaching your final destination can really add up.
Getting There by Car
If you are feeling quite adventurous you can drive from the UK to Croatia. Either all the way
to your chosen destination, or drive to an Italian port and then take a car ferry across.
If you drive directly to Croatia, the best, quickest and cheapest route would be through Germany,
thanks to the superb German autobahns. Regular drivers use
this route:-
Dover - Calais - through Belgium - towards the direction of Frankfurt - Nuremberg - Regensburg - enter
Austria near Linz - straight down to Graz - to Maribor in
Slovenia - towards Zagreb.
You'll most likely have to rest one night in Germany, at your halfway point. If
you're particularly keen on driving to Croatia, you can probably achieve this
journey in just over 2 days.

Getting there by Ferry
There are currently only ferry services from Italy to Croatia - no services
exist
from any other European country. You can take ferries ( or catamarans ) from the ports of Venice, Rimini,
Civitanova, Ancona, Pescara or Bari - from which one you travel depends on your destination.
Getting There by Train
It is certainly possible to travel by train from elsewhere in Europe to Zagreb, Pula, Rijeka
and Split, but in the case of the latter, you'll definitely have to travel via Zagreb.
