There are daily flights from Lisbon ( 3.5 hrs ) direct to the largest Island, Sal which
is the closest to Senegal.
From Sal there are short local flights to other islands, or more leisurely travel via ferry.
With the new International Airport in the capital, Praia, on the island of Santiago, larger planes have access to the islands and The Cape Verdi national Airline, TACV, will start operating direct routes from the UK in November 2006 ( journey time: 6 hrs ).
An " open skies " policy allowing other airlines to fly to the capital will put
downward pressure on air fares because of competition.
