Murcia - now the hot favourite for Brits buying abroad.
Murcia is now well and truly on the map and gaining popularity as a hot destination for second homes and buy-to-let property investment. The appeal of a less developed area, the accessibility due to more international airports and cheap flights are making the British look further afield than the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol. |

The most recent Semi-annual Barclays-IESE Barometer revealed that Murcia has become the most popular destination for the 70,000 British people each year who look to buy in Spain.
According to the report 65.7% of British people would choose Spain as their preferred destination to set up a second home. There was a 46% rise in Murcia's British population last year, followed by Almería ( +35% ), and Madrid ( +12% ).
At
the start of 2006, Brits owned a total of 90,000 residencies in Spain, 30% up on the start of last year.
In Murcia there are a reported 8,562 Britons with residence cards - 5.7% of the overall British expat community - the fourth highest number after Alicante, Malaga and the Balearic Islands.
The Murcia Chamber of Commerce suggests that 83,686 new homes will be built in the Murcia area by 2007 which would increase the local population by approx 200,000. Over the next decade the population is forecast to grow by 35%.
One of the key factors for this growth are the number of golf resorts and golf developments set to be completed in the next few years - golf courses almost always boost rental demand and will support the buy-to-let investment opportunities. That combined with great weather for about 10 months a year means the rental season is longer than elsewhere.

a good look at the Murcia area and the Costa Calida - it is a great location with reasonably priced property…
