Teodoro Ruiz, councillor for fiestas in Torrox and Acting Mayor at the time the news was announced, said his understanding is that the new facilities will be built in the Torrox side of the border, but would bring equal advantages to both municipalities. He added that the last word on the future site lies with the Environment Ministry, however.
The paper says the regional government, the Junta de Andalucía, is investing € 33 million in the Nerja-Torrox marina, which is designed with land area of 72,000 sq metres, and 157,000 m2 off shore. The paper says the jetty area will cover 90 square metres.
The new marina will bring 500 new mooring points to the district, and will be able to take boats with an average length of 13 metres.
The timescale for construction is put at two years, with no news yet on when that could begin.

Nerja, on the Costa del Sol, is 50 kms. east of Malaga ( a 45 minute drive on the autovia to the airport ). There have been settlements here for over 20,000 years
as evidenced by the local cave paintings. The name " NERJA " is derived from the Arabic for " place of water " and there have been settlements here from the

A few years ago we sold a villa, in the grounds of which the owner discovered a wonderful collection of Phoenician jewellery.
Once a sleepy fishing village, the town has developed and extended but is is unmistakably andalucian with restaurants, café bars, shops, narrow, winding
streets and whitewashed houses with wrought iron terraces overflowing with geraniums. The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcón de Europa. a magnificent promenade with sweeping panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the small coves and beaches below. The 17th century Church of El Salvador opens onto the Balcon and our office is alongside.
One of the great attractions of the area is the weather. The residents in Nerja
boast that the area has the best climate
in Europe. In the summer it´s usually around 30º C and in the winter around 20ªC with lots of sun.
This January ( 2005 ) the sea temperture was 14ºC which compares with the U.K. summer sea temperature of 12ºC.
It´s usual to see people sunbathing on the beaches for
about 9 months of the year. Perhaps it is the best climate !
In the mountains above Nerja is the beautiful and historic whitewashed village of Frigiliana. This was the site of numerous battles culminating in the famous battle
of the Rock of Frigiliana in 1569, which ended with the expulsion of the Moorish people.
The town has a very good range of amenities and its own fiestas, concerts,
carnivals and religious celebrations. They even run Bulls through the narrow
